Indira Gandhi Delhi Technological University for Women (IGDTUW)〔http://igit.ac.in〕 is the first Women Technical Varsity in India. It came into existence in 1998. Indira Gandhi Delhi Technical University for Women (IGDTUW) has been upgraded from Indira Gandhi Institute of Technology in May 2013 vide Delhi State Legislature Act 9, 2012, as a non-affiliating teaching and research University at Delhi to facilitate and promote studies, research, technology, innovation, incubation and extension work in emerging areas of professional education among women, with focus on engineering, technology, applied sciences, management and its allied areas with the objective to achieve excellence in these and related fields. The objective of this college is to promote technical education among the female students in the country. Erstwhile Indira Gandhi Institute of Technology (IGIT) was established in 1998 by Directorate of Training and Technical Education, Govt of N.C.T of Delhi as the first engineering college for women only. From 2002- 2013, the college remained the first and only constituent college of Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University. The college was the first constituent college of Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, the first state university of Delhi focusing on professional studies. Indira Gandhi Institute of Technology has four branches of engineering, namely Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Mechanical and Automation Engineering and Information and Technology Engineering. It is situated at the old Delhi College of Engineering (DCE) now the Delhi Technological University (DTU) campus at Kashmere Gate, Delhi, 110006. ==History== Indira Gandhi Institute of Technology was established by Department of Training and Technical Education, Govt. of Delhi, in 1998 as the first woman Engineering College in India.
